Rhode Island Class A/B Operator Course
This course will fulfill your Class A/B training requirement and is approved by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM).
Class A and B Operators must complete the following 7 chapters and a final exam in order to obtain their Class A/B Certificate of Completion:
Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter provides an overview of the Federal Regulations governing UST systems. A/B UST Operators will learn how preventing UST compliance and operational issues will decrease maintenance costs and increased profits for their facilities.
Chapter 2: Components of Tank Systems
This chapter is an in-depth look at the components of a tank system and common equipment issues that may cause leaks and require regular monitoring, maintenance and repair.
Chapter 3: Release Detection and Reporting
This chapter delves into the various methods of leak detection in compliance with state and federal law and the importance of proper installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment.
Chapter 4: State Requirements
This chapter will discuss the specific and unique requirements of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM)
Chapter 5: Temporary & Permanent Closure
This chapter discusses the rule requirements and recordkeeping for placing a tank in temporary closure or permanent closure and changing the service of a tank.
Chapter 6: Operator Training
This chapter defines the duties and responsibilities of the Class A, B and C Operators as well as the certification training and documentation requirements for each class of operators.
Chapter 7: Inspections
This chapter will cover the State’s compliance inspections and the mandated periodic owner/operator inspections (e.g., 30-Day Walkthrough Inspections) as set forth by the 2015 UST Regulations.
Final Exam
Upon completion of the course you will be required to take a final exam. You must answer 45 questions that are randomly pulled from a pool of 100 questions. You must pass with at least an 80% to receive your certificate. You can take the exam a maximum of 3 times in order to pass. If you fail the exam on the 3rd attempt, you will be required to repurchase and retake the Rhode Island Class A/B Operator Course.
Upon passing the final exam, a printable “Certificate of Completion” will be issued.
